I loved shooting this campaign for the re-brand of Hermes. It is so much fun as a photographer to receive a more challenging brief than normal. The issue here was to capture everything in-camera while positioning the box exactly where we needed it. I built the custom rig below to mount the box in front of the lens, allowing us to rotate and move the box in and out in front of the camera.
On the day, the biggest challenge was lighting the talent’s face without them flagging the light entering the box and ensuring the cardboard had enough texture. We did this in the end by bouncing little pools of light into the box using mirrors, which gave very precise control and a natural look.
